Remarkable for the lightness of the forms and the finesse of the work, the pair of fawns came found on 30 April 1756 in Herculaneum

 The two deer are two twin sculptural works made of bronze, originally part of the statuary complex of Villa of the Papyri , an aristocratic residence located outside the urban area of ​​ancient Herculaneum. These elegant and agile creatures they are represented in life size with remarkable realism: the heads are erect, while the muzzles are oriented to the left and right respectively.

All the bronzes found in the Villa, including the fawns, are exhibited today at National Archaeological Museum of Naples , where they represent important testimonies of life and art in ancient Herculaneum.
