Flora Botticino marble Tile

Flora Botticino marble 15 x 15 cm tile, reproduction of the fresco preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. 

That of Flora (Flora di Sabiae),Greek nymph, Is one of the most important paintings of the Empire Roman, buried under the ash and lava of the same eruption as the Vesuvius who buried Pompei and Herculaneum in 79 AD The Sabines were a population very devoted to the Goddess, so much so that they celebrated it with the throwing of beans and lupins and represented fertility in particular. In ancient Rome she was contemplated as the protector of flowering and wheat and in her rituals it was necessary to participate wearing colored robes to imitate the color of the flowers.

The fresco sees her intent on delicately collecting the flowers and spreading them with her basket. This almost seems to float in the air and has now become an allegorical symbol of the excavations.
