The Dancing Faun of Museum-Shop is a faithful reproduction from a cast of the original, dating back to the 1st/2nd century BC.

The House of the Faun, one of the most extraordinary Pompeian finds, takes its name from the Dancing Faun. The statue of the Faun must have adorned the ancient impluvium of the building - a tank designed to collect rainwater.

The Faun is a male figure with thick hair and beard, with handsome and sinuous muscles. A flowing tail appears on his back: the Faun is, in fact, a mythological creature halfway between human and animal.

His particular pose, with left arm and leg extended and right arm and leg flexed, seems to suggest a dance step.
