Futurism Manifesto

1. We want to sing the love of danger, the habit of energy and recklessness.
2. Courage, audacity, rebellion will be essential elements of our poetry.
3. Until today, our literature has exalted thoughtful immobility, ecstasy and sleep. We want to exalt the aggressive movement, the feverish insomnia, the running pace, the somersault, the slap and the punch.
4. We affirm that the magnificence of the world has been enriched with a new beauty: the beauty of speed. A racing car with its hood adorned with large tubes similar to snakes with explosive breath [...] a roaring car, which seems to run on grapeshot, is more beautiful than the Victory of Samothrace.
5. We want to praise the man who holds the steering wheel, whose ideal shaft crosses the Earth, also launched into a race on the circuit of its orbit.
6. The poet must do his utmost, with ardor, pomp and munificence, to increase the enthusiastic fervor of the primordial elements.
7. There is no more beauty, except in the struggle. No work that has an aggressive character can be a masterpiece. Poetry must be conceived as a violent assault against unknown forces, to reduce them to prostrate themselves before man.
8. We are on the extreme promontory of the centuries! [...] Why should we look over our shoulders if we want to break down the mysterious doors of the Impossible? Time and Space died yesterday. We already live in the absolute, since we have already created the eternal omnipresent speed.

 It is from Italy that we launch into the world this manifesto of overwhelming and incendiary violence with which we found "Futurism" today. [...]

...Standing on top of the world, we hurl our challenge to the stars once again!
