The Venus of the Medici it is an original sculpture from the late Hellenistic period (late 1st century BC).

The statue portraysVenus who was suddenly caught during a bath. The goddess seems sweet in her gestures, her soft forms perfectly portray the beauty standards of the time in which the sculpture was sculpted.

The dolphin on which the left leg of the goddess rests and the three cupids help to mythologically place the subject of the sculpture, which can undoubtedly be recognized as Aphrodite.

The Greeks associated the name of Aphrodite with the sea foam (afròs), from which they believed she was born; her cult spread in the West, first in Erice in Sicily and then in Rome, the goddess was honored with the name of Venus from the Latin Venus, which means beauty.
