In this depiction, the goddess is portrayed as she instinctively attempts to cover her breasts and pubis, as if she has just sensed that she is being watched by an indiscreet gaze.

The Greeks associated the name of Aphrodite with the sea foam (afròs), from which they believed she was born; her cult spread in the West, first in Erice in Sicily and then in Rome, the goddess was honored with the name of Venus from the Latin Venus, which means beauty.
