Description

Canvas Diana huntress, reproduction on canvas of the fresco found in the archaeological excavations of Stabiae (Castellammare di Stabia) exposed in the national archaeological museum of Naples.

Found in the Villa Arianna with the frescoes of Flora, Medea and Leda, Diana's dates back to the 1st century and was painted in third style. The bright colors and the delicate pose show the Goddess of the hunt as she tends her bow, depicted in profile on a blue background.

Diana (or Artemis) is remembered as the Goddess of the hunt, the moon, nature and agriculture, but at the same time she protected women and pregnant women. Often represented with a silver bow and arrow.
