This marble bust of Nero, one of most well-known and controversial emperors in Roman history, is a high-quality reproduction that captures the essence of an era of great power and decay. Historical Curiosities

Nero (Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus), was the fifth and last emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty.  He had some undeniable merits, especially in the first part of his empire, when he ruled with his mother Agrippina . 

His figure is surrounded by legends and controversies: on the one hand he is remembered as a patron of arts and culture, on the other as a despot who did not hesitate to eliminate anyone who opposed his will, including members of his own family.

One of the most famous episodes of his life is the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD, of which he was accused of being the culprit. However, scholars now agree that this is not the truth.  Furthermore, according to some historical sources, Nero played the lyre while the city burned. This image too was probably exaggerated by his detractors, but the episode nevertheless contributed to consolidating his reputation as a tyrant. Following the disaster, Nero undertook the reconstruction of the city, which included the construction of his sumptuous residence, the Domus Aurea.

Another interesting aspect of Nero's figure is his passion for the arts. He was a poet, musician and actor, and performed publicly, something unusual and scandalous for a Roman emperor. He promoted performances and artistic competitions and introduced the Neronia Games, a competition that celebrated music, poetry and sport, inspired by the Greek Olympic Games.

Maintenance

To keep the bust of Nero in perfect condition, clean it regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the marble surface. If necessary, you can clean the sculpture with a solution of warm water and neutral soap, drying immediately with a clean cloth to prevent the formation of streaks.
