Description

The fresco "The punishment of Ixion" was found in the House of the Vetti in Pompeii, one of the most famous houses of the archaeological site, thanks to the excellent state of conservation of the frescoes.

The fresco reveals Ixion tied to a wheel accompanied by Vulcan and Mercury. The latter turns his gaze to Era who witnesses the punishment. The figure seated on the ground completely wrapped in a large cloak is supposed to be a punishing spirit or Ixion's mother.
