Description

Crewneck T-shirt with short sleeves and Hadrianus & Antinous printed, 100% cotton.

Emperor Hadrian was very attentive and sensitive to letters and the arts, very "cultured" compared to other Roman emperors. In particular, he had a great love for culture and Greek civilization which he manifested in many ways. For example, granting special privileges to the inhabitants of Athens and enriching it considerably with large architectural works, adopting typical traditions of Greek culture. In the "Greek" way he used to express his great love for Antinous, a beautiful young Greek from Bithynia. When Antinoo died drowning in the Nile,  Hadrian founded in that place a city in his honor, Antinopoli. While Alexander the Great didnt allow himself to promote the worshipping his lover Hephaestion as a hero, Hadrian raised Antinous to the rank of divinity, promoting his cult. And he wrote:

Animula vagula blandula,
Hospes comesque corporis
Quae nunc abibis in loca
Pallidula, rigid, nudula,
Nec, ut soles, dabis iocos ...

Little soul, you charming little wanderer, my body’s guest and partner,
Where are you off to now?
Somewhere without colour, savage and bare;
Never again to share a joke.

Perfect T-shirt for those who love ancient Roman culture!
