Bronze statue of Discobolus, black marble base.
The Discobolus is a sculpture made around 455 BC (period of conjunction between pre-classical and classical) from Mirone. The original statue was in bronze.
The statue was possibly cast for the city of Sparta and depicted an athlete in the act of throwing the discus.
